Chaos Daemon Bloodletter Airbrush

Alright, so the above photo is not really a bloodletter, but he is different enough (and cool enough) to stand in as the squad leader. I was really inspired by the cover of the Chaos Daemon Codex, where the bloodletter there is lit from fire below. I've been working on my airbrushing skills and I think these guys came out great. These models are old, OOP bloodletters from a few years back, gotten cheap at my local store. Half of them were missing arms and axes, so I had to improvise with various other bits I had on stock.

I did a directional lighting by holding the models by the feet and spraying color "up" the model. I started with an airbrush red, then orange, and finally a yellow highlight. To be honest, the yellow jumps out more on the photo than it does on the miniature, as my photo editor is making a brighter contrast between it and the orange shades. Oh well.

Notice the blending on their axes. I've seen a few power weapon videos using airbrushes, so I thought I'd give it a try and I'm pleased with the results. Note that the only standard "brushwork" on these is the pupils in their eyes. Everything else is airbrush.

My intention is to do lava bases for these models, whether I make my own or buy something from Secret Weapon Miniatures. We will see.
